about

what is an ethical funeral celebrant?

Ethical Celebrants prepare and deliver ceremonies that are not affiliated to any particular set of religious or faith beliefs.  While an Ethical Celebrant cannot perform any sacraments, we are happy to incorporate in to your ceremony sacred music, poems, readings and reflections that are religious and or spiritual in nature and have special meaning for you and your loved ones.  A ceremony can be whatever you and your family want it to be. For most people it is part of a funeral taking place in a crematorium, funeral home, graveside or sometimes another chosen location.

Families may also wish to hold a Memorial, a celebration of their loved one’s life at a later stage with the possibility of including a wider circle of people. This might be at a special or notable time such as an anniversary or birthday.  You may also wish to have a smaller event to remember your loved one such as a scattering of ashes.

assisting you in your time of loss

Everyone’s grief is different and can be experienced in many ways. It can be like an acute pain feeling all-encompassing and at times overwhelming. Yet, despite our sadness and distress we want to mark the passing of a loved one in a special and memorable way.

In Ireland, funerals are organised to a very short time scale.  This can be a real difficulty for families, particularly where the loss is sudden and unexpected, where families have other demands or are dispersed. As your chosen Celebrant, I will work with you and your family in person or where helpful using an online platform such as Zoom, to create a fully personalised ceremony that allows you, your wider family and friends to mourn your loss, to remember your loved one and to celebrate their life.
